What does CBD do for skin?
CBD has been shown in some studies to support skin health in a variety of ways: it has antioxidant properties (so it combats all the free radicals that are harmful to skin cells) and can also act as an adaptogen (a plant that helps the body resist physical, chemical or biological stressors).
Studies also show that CBD has anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation has been linked to numerous skin conditions: acne, rosacea, psoriasis (including scalp psoriasis) eczema, and dendritis (a.k.a. dandruff).
Our bodies respond well to plant-made cannabinoids like CBD, because they mimic the compounds the body already makes. (Hardcore skincare nerds: Check out our deep dive into the endocannabinoid system and how it can balance your skin.
Does CBD help with skin problems?
CBD has scientifically observed anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. Antioxidants fight free radicals and halt oxidation (think about when a cut apple is left out and turns brown—that’s oxidation). Your skin is in constant renewal, shedding old dead cells and generating new ones. Oxidation interferes with that renewal process, which can lead to cell mutations as well as premature aging, lines, and wrinkles. Anti-oxidants are essential for both the health and appearance of your skin.
Inflammation plays a role in skin conditions like acne, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, and dandruff—but it can also simply result in stressed-out, red, irritated, flaky dull skin. Reducing skin inflammation is key to your skin’s health and appearance.
Can CBD be used as a natural acne treatment?
In the words of these researchers, “Findings suggest that, due to the combined lipostatic, antiproliferative, and antiinflammatory effects, CBD has potential as a promising therapeutic agent for the treatment of acne vulgaris.”
Acne can have many different causes (here’s a whole acne treatment post if you’re wanting to learn more) but CBD can address root causes: inflammation, oil production, even dryness. While no one treatment is a magic bullet for everyone, we strongly believe CBD can be a natural acne treatment worth exploring (especially for adult acne).
Does CBD skin care work?
While we need more studies of all cannabinoids and their health properties, there’s hard science that shows CBD skin care can benefit people with inflammatory skin problems. CBD’s anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, which are essential ingredients for protecting and improving the feel and appearance of the skin. CBD is also skin-soothing and hydrating.
What is the best CBD product for skin?
Short answer: Not the one at the gas station, don’t buy those.
1. Check the ingredients and make sure your product contains “cannabidiol”—not hemp seed oil, or hemp extract. You want CBD.
2. If you’re looking for a CBD skincare product you can trust, make sure their products are all third-party tested and certified (trustworthy companies will post this information prominently on their websites and list it on the packaging).
3. We advise buying from companies that specialize in CBD skin care and can clearly explain how their formulation benefits your skin.

Face potion is on point!
I've always had sensitive, dry skin that easily freaks out, so I'm a little cautious to try new products out. I previously used Argan oil and liked it - but 2020 has been a beast (stress!) so the face potion/CBD component was especially interesting to me. After 6 weeks, I'd say this is staying in my routine. I love the look (feels luxurious and a treat to put on both in the AM and PM)
